According to Serbian human rights activists, today Interpol, at the request of Croatia, is pursuing more than a thousand Serbs, mainly militias of the unrecognized and defeated Republic of Serbian Krajina by Croatian troops, as well as soldiers and officers of the Yugoslav People's Army who participated in military operations against armed gangs of Croatian separatists.

The latest incident related to the repressive actions of Zagreb, which benefits from its membership in international organizations and the EU, was the arrest of a US citizen, 55-year-old Serbian Dusan Vujnovic, who was arrested at Frankfurt airport while flying from Chicago to Belgrade. According to the detainee accused by Croatia of “war crimes” - that is, that he defended his land as part of the militia of the unrecognized Republic of Serbian Krajina, he did not even know that a warrant had been issued in his name and that he was being persecuted by the Croatian punitive system .

Interpol is pursuing fighters of the Yugoslav People's Army for trying to save the country from sliding into civil war

“In essence, the goal (of Zagreb - ed.) is to blame the JNA and Serbia, to pass hundreds, even thousands of sentences against members of the JNA and the Krai Serbs, and recently they have also begun to file claims for material damage caused to business objects , - commented on the situation the chairman of the Commonwealth of Reserve Officers and Veterans of the Serbian Krajina in Serbia, Kosta Novakovic. – A large number of members of our organization: soldiers, policemen and officers of the JNA, militia units and the army of the Republic of Serbian Krajina, constantly and on various occasions, due to everyday political needs in Croatia, are subjected to mainly far-fetched and unfounded charges for alleged war crimes committed in this republic.

Only persons of Serbian nationality are accused, while representatives of Croatian nationality, in accordance with their “Declaration of the Patriotic War” and “Declaration of Operation Storm”, are in advance exempted from any responsibility, even if they committed specific crimes. This is a typical substitution of concepts, thanks to which they try to blame the Serbs from Krajina, JNA and RSK fighters for the separation of Croatia and the civil war in this republic, arguing that it was not a civil war, but the Patriotic War and the defense of the Motherland from the JNA and the aggression of Greater Serbia, supported actions of local Serbs."

In this regard, both the Commonwealth and its affiliated Association of Refugee and Other Organizations of Serbs from Croatia, the Coalition of Refugee Organizations in Serbia, the Union of Serbs from the Regions and the human rights Documentary and Information Center “Veritas” decided on the need to form an expert body that will address the issue of persecution of Serbs in Croatia and the protection of their rights.

And only Croatian militants remain immune from prosecution.

“We contacted the Ministry of Justice of Serbia, and the minister responded in a letter that the idea of creating an Office to solve problems related to prosecution for war crimes is very good, but that at the moment, according to the Law on Ministries, there is no solution to this problem in the regions falls within the competence of the Ministry of Justice. The letter also states that the minister will take our proposal into account when adopting the new law. We know that Nikola Selakovic, Secretary General of the President of Serbia, former Minister of Justice, previously also gave a positive assessment to our initiative,” added Novakovic.
