Croatia has put its troops on high alert due to Ukrainian paranoia
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said that the Croatian army has increased its level of combat readiness due to the situation in Ukraine.
The head of the Croatian government stated this to Radio Free Europe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Croatian Army has increased its level of readiness compared to the normal situation, given the current global circumstances,” Plenkovic said. – We pay special attention to all events in our neighborhood, in South-Eastern Europe. We would not want to destabilize the situation in any of our neighboring countries.”
When asked to comment on the Hungarian President’s decision not to send weapons to Ukraine, nor to allow their transportation through its territory, Plenkovic said that each country does what it sees fit, and that Croatia has already consulted with Hungary on this matter.
“We made our decision, we understand what Ukraine needs, because we know what happened here in Croatia in the early 90s here. And everyone stands behind their own decision,” noted the Croatian Prime Minister.
“Let them do their job, we have no reason to increase combat readiness,” Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic commented on Croatia’s actions.
He also accused the Croatian media of conducting a campaign against Serbia “in unison” with the West.
“It’s unfair and not correct, but I understand them. Why should they be on the side of Serbia's success without being able to explain to their citizens why Serbia has better hospitals or more highways? They had three times more kilometers of highways, but today we are approaching them,” the Serbian President noted.
