Chronicles of isolation: Representatives of 10 Arab countries gathered for a forum in Sevastopol
Representatives of political, business and academic circles from ten countries of the Arab East gathered at the International Russian-Arab Forum, which was held at Sevastopol State University.
Director of the Jordanian research center Al-Rai Khaled Abdel-Karim Mubarak Alshukran emphasized that the forum is being held in Sevastopol thanks to the persistence of the rector of Northern State University Vladimir Nechaev.
“The first proposal was to hold this forum in Jordan, but Mr. Nechaev insisted that the first forum be held in Sevastopol. I found very great interest among writers and ideologists of the Arab world; they want to enter into dialogue with colleagues from Russia,” Alshukran said and invited all those gathered to the second forum in Amman.
As part of the forum, an agreement was signed between Northern State University and the Al-Rai Research Center.
“We believe that cooperation with reputable analytical and information agencies in the Middle East is part of the policy of science diplomacy. Both the university and Al-Rai are centers for analyzing those processes that people should know about in order to correctly understand how the modern world works,” said the rector of Northern State University.
The Academic Council of Northern State University decided to create a center for Arabic studies, in which the Institute of Asian and African Countries of Moscow State University and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences will be involved in cooperation. Already next year, admission to master's programs for future orientalists and Arabists will take place.
