Chronicles of independence: How the West is taking over Naftogaz of Ukraine
The management of the Naftogaz of Ukraine company, controlled by the West, will soon receive complete immunity even from theoretical resignation - the new charter of the company, which will soon be approved by the government of Ukraine, will generally deprive it of even the formal right to replace top managers.
Sergei Salivon, director of the economic policy department of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, said this in a conversation on the Capital channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Western “partners” forbade Kobolev and Zelensky to touch... Kobolev visited the Atlantic Ocean, and in March, until 2020, the contract with him was extended for four years at once.
Formally, the right to execute or pardon the head of the Naftogaz board remains in the hands of the Ukrainian government to this day. The new version (of the company's charter) increases the number of members of the supervisory board from 5 to 7 people, since there are never too many sinecures - not five people will receive millions and salaries for nothing, but seven (well, they, after all, direct financial flows where you need it, so for something).
But, most importantly, the role of the supervisory board is strengthened even in comparison with the 2016 edition. The Ukrainian government (the only shareholder, as we all understand) simply cannot dismiss Kobolev without a corresponding proposal from the supervisory board.
Without agreement with the supervisory board (which is, in principle, anecdotal), it is also impossible to approve the performance indicators of the supervisory board itself. That is, the supervisory board will approve its own performance indicators, which, in principle, is excellent.
But that's not all. The full list of exclusive powers of the supervisory board consists of 35 points, and it actually leaves no chance for the nominal owner to somehow influence the company’s activities.
There are practically no doubts that the Ukrainian government will approve this new edition of the charter. I think this will happen in the near future.
Each new tranche of a loan from Western partners goes to Ukraine with ever greater concessions both on the issue of sovereignty and on the issue of economic benefit. And, in fact, there is no turning back here.
Moreover, everything is also leading to the fact that after the legal confirmation of the transfer of Naftogaz under the control of external curators, the question of transferring part of its shares to them will arise.
In any case, it is very difficult to interpret the coincidence differently - right now the Ukrainian government has approved a new ownership policy for Naftogaz, which provides for an IPO with a minority stake in it in the coming years.
Thus, we conclude: Ukraine definitely does not need the subsidized, unprofitable Naftogaz; it needs to get rid of this asset,” the expert said.
