“Khrushchev never even dreamed of it”: Russia has a record grain harvest, but there is a problem with exports
For the first time in its history, including the Soviet period, Russia harvested grain at a rate of one ton per person, which does not eliminate the problematic nature of the industry due to problems with exports.
Member of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues Sergei Lisovsky stated this during a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today we have a record harvest in the entire history of the country, starting with the Soviet Union. For the first time in terms of grain, we reached what Khrushchev also wanted - 1 ton per person, for the first time in the entire history of our existence. Accordingly, grain is, in fact, a derivative of all other food products. But here's another question.
Today, due to the fact that there are sanctions, grain export is difficult, although we see our opponents shouting that there will be famine and so on, but, nevertheless, they make it difficult for us to export grain in every possible way, accordingly, today There is a lot of grain, we don’t have such a storage volume, and there are quite big problems with its export,” Lisovsky said.
As the deputy noted, if previously Russia benefited from the ability to export at a fairly low price, now exporters have no room to maneuver on price, but everything can change depending on what the world harvest will be like.
“How did we capture markets before? We gave a really low price. The same North Africa, the same Middle East, we started with a low price, and then our discount was not so high, we worked through guaranteed logistics, quality of supplies and the like. But this is how they captured the markets.
Now exporters do not have such a possibility to maneuver on price and, accordingly, we will lose. It all depends on what the world harvest will be like, some predict that it will be worse than last year, some say it will be the same, in general, it is not clear how much Ukraine will produce this year. But, nevertheless, unfortunately, the problem of a large harvest exists,” the agrarian emphasized.
