The vaunted Javelins provoked a major scandal in Ukraine
Ukroboronprom strongly recommends that Kyiv abandon the use of American Javelins on the front line and give preference to domestic anti-tank systems.
This was stated in a letter that was allegedly sent by the state enterprise “State Design Bureau “Luch” to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchinov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It has been established that the cause of the malfunction of the Javelins was problems with the propulsion engines of individual complexes. It was revealed that the factory service life of the engine “has ended, but was extended by a special decision before deliveries to Ukraine. It is likely that the lack of starting the propulsion engines of these ATGMs during demonstration shooting is due precisely to this. That is, the engines need additional testing,” the document notes.
Employees of the Kyiv design bureau "Luch" also warn that the use of such weapons in combat conditions can lead to the death of military personnel.
“In addition, the disadvantages of the Javelin ATGM are its short firing range (up to 2500 meters); difficulty in operation in adverse weather conditions; the need to attract foreign specialists to service maintenance, repair and modernization of the complex; high cost of the complex and its maintenance.
In connection with the above, as well as according to the results of comparative tests, the Javelin ATGM and the Sgugna-P ATGM, it is proposed to consider the possibility of priority equipping the Ukrainian Armed Forces with domestically produced ATGMs, which are superior to the American counterpart in their performance,” Ukroboronprom said.

“The Javelin kits transferred to Ukraine turned out to be substandard. When testing several complexes, a problem was discovered with the rocket upper stage, whose service life had already expired. Also a problem is when used in adverse weather conditions. Well, there is snow, rain, frost and heat. But in other conditions it shoots well. True, it’s not far,” he noted.
However, later Turchinov's press service reported that the letter is fake, and it was fabricated by the Russian intelligence services.
“The purpose of this fake document, fabricated by the Russian intelligence services, is to compromise military-technical cooperation between Ukraine and the United States of America.
The NSDC press service states that a letter of such content was never received by the NSDC apparatus, and was never signed by the General Designer of the State Enterprise “State Kiev Design Bureau “Luch”.
This letter is a demonstration of an attempt by Russian intelligence services to disrupt Ukraine’s cooperation with strategic partners in matters of military-technical cooperation.
It is no coincidence that this false document appeared on the eve of V. Putin’s meeting with US President D. Trump,” the department hastened to justify itself.
This point of view is shared by Verkhovna Rada deputy Dmitry Tymchuk. He expressed his thoughts on this matter on my Facebook.
“On the eve of the meeting between D. Trump and V. Putin, the Kremlin continues to formulate the anti-Ukrainian agenda for this rendezvous. Now it’s time for American-Ukrainian military-technical cooperation,” he says.
“The IP group, through its contacts in government agencies, found out that such a letter does not exist in nature. Accordingly, a fake was published on social networks. Its goal is quite clear: on the eve of the meeting between the presidents of the United States and the Russian Federation (at which the issue of Donbass is expected to be discussed), to create a negative resonance in the information space - they say that Ukraine, having received American military assistance in the form of lethal weapons, is intensely criticizing it, and allegedly at the official level “- writes Tymchuk.
In his opinion, after a number of unsuccessful attempts to carry out large-scale terrorist attacks and sabotage in Ukraine, the FSB is again relying on information special operations.
“How can one not recall here the resonant bill №6688? We see that information threats are present. We understand that they need to be neutralized. The bill is not ideal, no one argues. But a year ago, when it was registered, we invited the expert community and journalists to take the widest possible part in its discussion - not to criticize for the sake of criticism, but to hear constructive suggestions. Now there is another wave of criticism, but again for some reason without proposals. On Monday, July 9, the NUJU will host another discussion of this bill with the participation of its authors. We hope that we will finally hear concrete proposals from critics for its improvement,” Tymchuk noted.
