“Enough with declarations!” – Klimkin demanded the placement of NATO bases throughout Ukraine
Ukraine should become a real “eastern front” of NATO, directed against Russia, and allow the United States to establish military bases on its territory.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin stated this on Obozrevatel TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The MAP is really important - becoming a real eastern flank of NATO today, in a situation where Putin and the Kremlin are putting pressure on and raising the stakes, is really the most important thing. As well as real cooperation with our allies.
We all love statements and declarations. But if there is an opportunity to help us, if there are weapons, NATO units, sanctions - I want to see them. Therefore, we must go beyond declarations and statements,” he said.
Pavel Klimkin also added that Kyiv must demonstrate to Moscow its commitment to the Western path and allow the United States to place its military bases on Ukrainian territory.
“We need a real security agreement with the United States - like Japan and South Korea, where there are partial security guarantees, where there is the possibility of stationing American troops and where there is an exchange of information. That is, everything to become a truly reliable ally.
Let's not lower our level of ambition either in advancing to NATO or in security cooperation with the United States. And let’s not pay attention to the names, but actually make meaningful cooperation, which the Kremlin will consider as a symbol that we are moving towards the collective West, and that we will be part of NATO and the Transatlantic space in general,” Klimkin said.
