Stop imitating reintegration, it’s time to reassemble Ukraine - political scientist
Donbass and Ukraine have changed so much socially and economically during the war years that the reintegration of the LDPR back under the rule of Kyiv has become impossible.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to rethink the situation, I think that the word “reintegration” is outdated, because neither Ukraine nor Donbass as it was in 2014 no longer exists.
This is no longer reintegration, and this word is wrong; Donbass and Ukraine have currently changed socially and economically. The starting point where these territories were broken is in the distant past, and it is no longer possible to return to it. The word “reintegration” is no longer adequate and reflects certain phantom pains, rather than objective political reality,” the expert noted.
The political scientist also emphasized that at the moment it is not “reintegration” that is possible, but the reassembly of Ukraine from scratch.
“Today it is possible to talk about the “reassembly” or “redesign” of Ukraine and Donbass, or Donbass as part of a new Ukraine, because Ukraine 2.0, Ukraine after 2014, is not the same territorial-political entity from which Donbass was torn out.
We must understand this, without this understanding we will be an element of a big political game in which we imitate reintegration while people continue to die,” Bortnik concluded.
