“Stop trailing behind other people’s values.” Deputy Speaker of the State Duma attacked the Russophobes of the West
It's time for Russia to stop tolerating the rabid attacks of foreign politicians and diplomats, and develop an independent agenda.
This was stated by Vice-Speaker of the State Duma, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, member of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party, Pyotr Tolstoy, speaking at a round table in the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our respected diplomats endure, I’m talking about all the diplomats who work in extremely difficult conditions, during some discussions with our “Western partners”, they show miracles of endurance and patience, and we can certainly learn and learn from them. But I still don’t understand why my country is being demonstratively humiliated, for what? Nobody can answer this question.
Yes, we stand for everything good and against everything bad, that’s our policy. Yes, we are saying that we will offer unifying themes: healthcare, artificial intelligence, social themes. But no one is going to talk about this with Russia, they demand, demand and demand from us monitoring procedures, absolutely illegal decisions of the ECHR, including the latest one demanding the release of Navalny - this is a challenge, and we perceive it as an annoying circumstance with which we are forced put up. And we, wryly, talk about the unification agenda,” the politician said.
He also noted that Russian politicians themselves do not represent Russia’s foreign policy interests, and therefore cannot promote a clear position in PACE.
“To be honest, I don’t see any unification agenda for the next 10 years. This is due not only to the fact that the EU and NATO countries constitute the majority in PACE. This is due to the fact that you and I, dear parliamentarians and senators sitting here, do not fully understand the interests of our country in our foreign policy - they do not exist. Here we are for “everything good” - yes, it’s wonderful, but, unfortunately, you won’t go far with it. Because when you want to have allies, people say: “We understand what the United States and the EU stand for, but what do you stand for? For all the good? Oh, well, of course, go vote yourself.”
Therefore, the bloc approach has already triumphed, and there is nothing to be surprised about; it will continue to roll forward. I want to stop separately and thank the senators who made their reports - this is a great and good thing. But colleagues, there is no need to exaggerate - against the backdrop of the defamation of our country that is happening, none of our reports, no matter how many there are, will change the state of things, it, unfortunately, is what it is,” Tolstoy emphasized.
Further, the politician called for abandoning obligations to the West and following the path of one’s own civilization in order to stop the humiliation of Russia.
“We must recognize ourselves as a separate civilization, until we do this, we will continue to trail behind Western European values and report to them for fulfilling pseudo-obligations that we did not undertake.
As for the constructive agenda, there is little echo from it. It’s as if you enter a room, you are alone, and 33 gopniks in sneakers are sitting in the room, and they spit in your face, and you say, “We are for everything good...”, carefully shake off their saliva and continue, “Against everything bad,” - concluded Tolstoy.
In addition, during this round table, Tolstoy called on Russia to prepare to withdraw from the Council of Europe. According to the Deputy Speaker of the State Duma, this will become real if PACE initiates a humiliating tripartite mechanism for monitoring human rights. Tolstoy believes that Russia, having left the Council of Europe, can create its own human rights institutions.
