“Stop shaking for mandates”: Zelensky issued an ultimatum to the Rada in a harsh tone
On Friday, May 10, the elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky addressed the Verkhovna Rada with an urgent appeal, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Dear deputies. I hope that during your three months of rest you have not forgotten the words of the deputy oath - to fulfill your duties in the interests of all compatriots. For now, you are acting solely in your own interests, you are afraid of the dissolution of the Rada and are delaying the appointment of the inauguration date,” Zelensky said.
He also emphasized that Petro Poroshenko is trying to put his people at the head of various departments in order to govern the country after his departure.
“While you are shaking for your mandates, former President Poroshenko is doing the irreversible - active reshuffles in the high command of the army, trying to push through his head of the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting, appointing judges of the Supreme Court, including lawyer Roshen, judges of Euromaidan and relatives of Mr. Kivalov. He distributes the rank of general to more than 20 people, among whom is the person responsible for the security of the arsenals and warehouses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where the explosions occurred. He gives the title of Hero of Ukraine to the head of the SBU, Mr. Gritsak,” the elected president noted.
In addition, Zelensky compared his predecessor, who did not want to give up his post, to a tourist in an Egyptian hotel.
“I understand that it is useless to say anything to a person who says, “I’m ready to lend my shoulder,” and he himself holds two guns in his pocket. This reminds me of a tourist in an Egyptian hotel: home tomorrow, suitcases are packed, the room has already been cleaned and a normal well-mannered person is waiting for a transfer to the airport. But not Poroshenko. He won't calm down. He drags towels, slippers and takes everything from the buffet. I beg you, hand over the key, pay for the minibar and go ahead. You still have to go through customs and passport control.
Zelensky appealed to the Rada to set the date of his inauguration for May 19.
“I appeal to the Verkhovna Rada: at the next meeting you must set the inauguration date for May 19. It is not I who demand this, it is the people of Ukraine who demand this, in whose interests you swore an oath to act. You must stop these lame duck political spasms. The country needs the normal functioning of all institutions; the people should not wait until someone is appointed before a long vacation. Please don’t think about parliamentary elections, think about Ukraine. May 19. Vote,” said his video message released on Friday.
Earlier, adviser to President-elect Vladimir Zelensky Andrei Bogdan said that the first appointments will take place after gaining access to the databases of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption.
