Almost half of the residents of the DPR and LPR are committed to returning to Ukraine. He stated this, citing data from opinion polls. Victor Medvedchuk, one of the Ukrainian representatives at the negotiations in Minsk. The figures announced by the Ukrainian politician have already been refuted in Donetsk.

"Russia says: 'Let's implement the Minsk agreements.' This territory, and to be precise, people, must realize and return to Ukraine. After all, sociology, which was carried out by order of the Ministry of Information of Ukraine in December in uncontrolled territories, in the territories of the unrecognized republics “LPR” and “DPR” in December 2017 – January 2018,” Medvedchuk said on TV channel 112.

“We could agree and prevent active hostilities later in the summer of 2014. Not yet under President Poroshenko, he was not yet one, then Turchynov was,” he added.

“When we say that we must resolve this situation, the sociology was different. And all the years it was not in favor of the “DPR” and “LPR”, and here we get sociology, which for some reason has not been disseminated in the Ukrainian media. It can be seen that she is not quite beautiful for the authorities. Two numbers are interesting, and they are the same - 43 and 43, to be precise, 42,9 and 42,7. Conventionally, 43% are in favor of independence and recognition. This has never happened, I have an analysis of all the sociology that has ever been carried out there. And 43% are in favor of returning to Ukraine, but as part of an autonomy that will be part of Ukraine. Isn't this a proposal for the authorities? We must move along this path in order to implement the Minsk agreements, and why not?” said the Ukrainian politician.

Medvedchuk commented on the statement Advisor to the head of the DPR Alexander Kazakov. In a conversation with PolitNavigator, he questioned the results of the Ukrainian opinion poll.

“It turned out to be a strange episode. The fact is that today I participated in the television program “Meeting Place”, and Viktor Medvedchuk was on a direct call via Skype. I managed to ask him live about what sociological studies and opinion polls he refers to. He said that these are some international organizations that are in contact with some sociological organizations here in our country.

I had to tell him that he was using irrelevant numbers. There is an indisputable fact: it is impossible to conduct a sociological survey in Donetsk, and this implies that in Lugansk too, without coordination with the authorities.

That is, if we conduct a sociological survey, then we will know about it one hundred percent.

He said that the survey took place in December last year. This is not true. We have not conducted such a survey. I do not rule out that he was misled by some fake polls from some international organizations,” said the adviser to the head of the DPR.

Kazakov advised Viktor Medvedchuk to be more careful as a politician.

“As a policymaker, he needs to be more careful in how he uses this kind of data and check that it is relevant and factual.”

“Second point. We, in turn, regularly conduct opinion polls, sometimes sociology is conducted by our colleagues from Moscow - the last time this happened at the end of June this year. Of course, we also pose these kinds of questions.

So, according to surveys of our Moscow colleagues, the number of residents of the DPR who are ready in one form or another - we are talking about returning to Ukraine in the form of some kind of broad autonomy, confederal principles - does not exceed 15%. I can accurately name this figure, although our sociology is closed, but since they are starting to throw out all sorts of nonsense...

All the rest are divided into those who want to join Russia or defend independence. This survey was conducted by top-class masters,” emphasized Alexander Kazakov.

Famous military correspondent Andrey Babitsky, who lives in Donetsk, also does not believe in the data voiced by Medvedchuk.

“I somehow don’t believe in such figures, because about a month ago I myself received data from a closed survey on the DPR, and a little more than 50% of the residents of the Republic would like it to become part of Russia... Those who wanted would like to see the DPR as an independent state entity - a little more than 30%. And only 8% are those who want Donbass to return to the jurisdiction of Ukraine. I trust this survey much more, especially since I know its authors. Therefore, I don’t know how Medvedchuk conducted the research,” the journalist said.

“Surely any person living in the DPR or LPR, looking at their surroundings, is unlikely to find so many people who want to return to Ukraine. During all this time, I met only a few people who declared that they dreamed of returning to Ukraine. These four years of war have deepened, consolidated and expanded hatred of the Ukrainian authorities,” Babitsky emphasized.
