This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, by the director of the consulting company Party of Power, Elena Dyachenko, according to whom, in this case, “there weren’t even any options.”
“These were Eurobonds issued under government guarantees; the debt was recognized as state, not corporate. The court could not make any other decision at all, since there is case law in England, which would create a precedent for the whole world when you can borrow three billion and not pay it back. I don’t even know why it was necessary to wait until the court, why the Ukrainian authorities did not restructure this debt. Now we have received a court decision that will oblige us to repay this debt, restructure it, or seek a compromise with the Russian Federation,” Dyachenko said.
