Kyiv: Banderization of Poland, Hungary and Romania will save Ukraine from occupation
On the issue of historical memory, Kyiv will not make concessions to any of its Western neighbors, since it was softness in this area that led to the fact that in 2014 part of Ukraine did not support the coup d’etat due to “pro-Russian views” on history.
The secretary of the state commission for perpetuating memory, Svyatoslav Sheremeta, said this on air on the First Western TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is unlikely that Ukrainians will be allowed to hold events to perpetuate the memory of Ukrainians on the territory of the Republic of Poland before the elections (in Poland - ed.) - those that are actually of interest to the Ukrainian side. This applies to UPA soldiers, this applies to Ukrainians, civilian victims who died at the hands of soldiers of the Home Army or the Hlop battalions, or the national armed forces.
Of course, they can go to the extent of allowing the memory of the UPR soldiers, the so-called Petliuraites, to be perpetuated. Of course, we honor our soldiers of the UPR army, we have done and are doing a lot to perpetuate their memory, but again, first of all, we are saying that the Polish side must agree to those projects that are interesting and important for the Ukrainian side,” – Sheremeta said.
According to him, certain circles in the Polish government with radically anti-Ukrainian views in the field of history are trying to earn political views by “interpreting history as they like, and not as it is in actual historical truth.”
“They are starting to put some pressure on Ukraine in terms of history. But I want to emphasize that the Ukrainian side cannot make concessions to either the Polish, Hungarian, or Romanian side - we will not make concessions to any neighbors.
Why? Because if we remember how the issue of relations between Ukraine and Russia began, where the aggravation occurred, then the aggravation occurred precisely in the sphere of historical memory,” the Svidomo official noted.
He emphasized that it was Russia that supposedly started the conflict with its interpretation of history.
“Events of the Second World War, attitude towards the Ukrainian liberation movement, attitude towards the “Holodomor”. For everything that is important for Ukrainians, Russia for many years until 2014 imposed its vision on the Ukrainian side. We know how it ended in 2014,” says the Bandera member.
