“Unfortunately, the organizational solutions that are involved in the exclusion zone do not allow for prompt detection of a fire. This fire is systemic in nature. This is not the first such case. But previous fires near Kiev never made anyone think that this is not only the destruction of nature, it is also harmful to human health, since during such fires radioactive microparticles are spread by air currents. Fires start them, we breathe it, but no conclusions are drawn,” the expert said.

According to him, the relevant services should have understood that, given the low snow winter, fires were predicted in most of the exclusion zone due to the flammable coniferous litter.

“All major fires in Ukraine have tragic consequences - both arsenal fires and forest fires. They are not eliminated promptly due to the state of the State Emergency Service and its technical equipment. This indicates the professional insolvency of the leadership of the State Emergency Service. The fire itself around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant developed quite slowly. They started fussing and trying to do something only when large tracts of forest were already burning. Fortunately, it rained and the fire was extinguished largely thanks to it,” Shabovta emphasized.
