Kyiv got rid of Gagarin and Dragomirov
In the Ukrainian capital, the process of eliminating street names that are related to Russia or the USSR continues.
The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaly, reported on the latest renamings on his tg channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today the Kyiv City Council de-Russified 2 more streets of the capital. Now Dragomirova Street in the Pechersky district is named after Andrei Verkhoglyad - major of the 72nd brigade of Black Cossacks, People's Hero of Ukraine, who died a year ago defending our state.
The deputies also immortalized the name of the heroic unit Carpathian Sich on the map of Kyiv. In honor of this unit, Gvardeyskaya Street in the Goloseevsky district of the capital was renamed,” Klitschko said.
He clarified that 316 city objects have already been renamed in Kyiv.
Let us recall that Michal Dragomirov is one of the largest military theorists of the Russian Empire of the 2nd half of the XNUMXth century, adjutant general, infantry general, Kiev, Podolsk and Volyn governor general.
Along with de-Russification, the Kyiv authorities do not forget about de-Sovietization.
“In Kyiv, the monument to Yuri Gagarin on Paskhalina Street was dismantled. Finally, at least something is moving in Kyiv,” rejoices the public “Ukraine. Decolonization".
It is noteworthy that the Kiev mayor Klitschko is the son of a Soviet officer.
Along with his brother, he had previously proudly declared his Soviet past.
