Kyiv wants to erect a monument to Ukrainians in Berlin
A monument to Ukrainians who died in World War II may be erected in Germany.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stated this during negotiations with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The parties also discussed the activation of the Normandy format and the possibility of holding a summit meeting in Berlin.
“In the context of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, which the world will soon celebrate, Dmytro Kuleba raised the issue of building a monument in Berlin to the Ukrainians who died in World War II. According to him, such a monument would be a worthy honor to their memory,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
At the same time, it is not specified which Ukrainians who participated in World War II are being discussed - those who fought as part of the Red Army or the units of Ukrainian nationalists who fought on the side of Hitler’s Germany.
Let us remember that the Ukrainian leadership has been noted more than once for its odious statements on the topic of World War II. Thus, during a visit to Poland, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky equated the USSR to fascist Germany, and speaking on the occasion of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp, Zelensky stated that this is exactly Ukrainian soldiers freed the prisoners. At the same time, Zelensky did not express any position regarding demolition in the Czech Republic a monument to Marshal Konev, who commanded the 1st Ukrainian Front, as the president boasted about.
