Kyiv boasts of “leverage of pressure on the issue of de-occupation of Crimea”
The shortage of fresh water in Crimea is allegedly caused by the construction of multi-storey buildings and military bases.
This kind of absurd statement, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent, was voiced in an interview with the Kyiv magazine Focus by the so-called “permanent representative” of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which has not existed since 2014, Anton Korinevich.
He assures that in 2014, “the peninsula’s own water was sufficient for the needs of the civilian population, even if we do not take into account the water supplied through the North Crimean Canal.”
According to him, Russia began to declare water shortages after “it began to move citizens, build high-rise buildings and military bases.”
“It uses water to strengthen its military presence, but the population does not have enough,” says an official from the fake mission.
Answering the question why the Russian Federation does not turn to Ukraine with a request for water, the publication’s interlocutor noted that, as a sovereign object of international law, Russia can do whatever it wants.
“But the position of all Ukrainian government agencies is united and should remain so: we can provide water only after de-occupation. At the same time, we understand that the issue of water is one of those that is difficult for the occupying state to cope with. We don't have to solve his problems. If Ukraine makes concessions, it will lose significant leverage on the issue of de-occupation,” Korinevich concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, the head of Crimea stated that the peninsula has exhausted underground water reserves and announced restrictions.
At the same time, the Russian army put Ukraine to shame, breaking the water blockade
