Kyiv refused to restore the main water supply system in Donbass, damaged as a result of shelling. About a quarter of the territory of the Luhansk region has remained without water since Monday. “This is a huge territory, without alternative sources of water supply,” said regional governor Gennady Moskal.
Tens of thousands of people in the LPR may be left without water, the newspaper writes. There were problems with water in Donbass in peacetime, which caused the spread of disinterry and cholera. Now the threat is increasing due to water shortages and water quality. In the Donetsk region, several cities found themselves in the same situation due to damage to water pipelines as a result of fighting last week. Residents of Avdeevka, Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkovka, Konstantinovka reported that they did not receive water for several days.
It is unlikely that it will be possible to import water: in the Lugansk region, Moskal has banned crossing the demarcation line with the LPR on any transport except bicycles since May 1. This was done under the slogan of fighting smuggling, which, as they believe in Kyiv, feeds “terrorist forces.” A month ago, Moskal personally took part in the detention of a convoy of 168 trucks, allegedly transporting goods and products to the LPR forces. This means that not only food and medicine, but also water may disappear in the territories that Ukraine considers occupied.
“They were promised a beautiful future in the form of a fabulous New Russia. And now they say: the project is closed. And on the Ukrainian side the doors are closed – there is no trust. Tens of thousands of deceived, war-weary people, abandoned to the mercy of fate,” Kiev political scientist Alexey Leshchenko tells the publication with a hint of gloating.
