The head of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, Ruslan Bortnik, spoke at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He recalled that right-wing politicians won the last parliamentary elections in Poland, many of whom view Ukraine as “a zone of their expansion”, and Western Ukraine as “their ancestral territory” and lands where “Polish culture and the Polish nation” were formed to a significant extent.
These forces, the expert says, have gained increasing influence on Ukrainian politics and under them the issue of restitution in Western Ukraine has received new development.
“I don’t think it’s fast, but it’s quite realistic with the continuation of the association agreement with the EU,” Bortnik noted. – And if we follow the instructions of the Institute of National Remembrance, treating the liberation of Ukraine in 1944 as a change from German occupation to Soviet, of course, the Poles will receive an absolutely legal political tool to demand restitution, the return of their objects in Western Ukraine. Thus, we are opening the way, creating all the opportunities to take away our property located in these territories from the invaders of Western Ukraine. We ourselves are falling into a geopolitical trap.”
