Kyiv fears clashes with Russians in Azov – Ukraine has decided to harass Moscow in Western courts
Ukrainian military boats deployed to Azov could accompany ships heading to Mariupol or Berdyansk to prevent their delay by Russian border guards. However, such patrolling is fraught with a military clash with the Russians, so Kyiv is relying on a legal battle with Russia and the seizure of its assets in the West.
Minister for the Affairs of “Occupied Territories” Vadim Chernysh stated this on the air of the “Direct” TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are two ways - either to escort our ships that are passing through, take them under escort and escort them - in this case, the risk of firefights and clashes is, of course, very high. The second is to do the same with Russian ships. Physically, if they are escorted, this will be difficult to do.
Therefore, Ukraine has now chosen the path of protecting the coastline, partly the water area, from a military point of view and protection in international courts through the Convention on International Law.
It just takes a little longer, but, in principle, it can be very effective. We can have compensation for losses - in all directions... Here there is compensation for ports, here for loss of property, here for illegal use of gas, here for illegal destruction of property.
If these claims are consolidated, then we can arrest the property of the Russian Federation for this, including abroad in democratic countries where judicial systems operate,” Chernysh said.
Earlier PolitNavigator reportedthat Ukrainian nationalists propose to take away all property from Russian investors, as well as those who left for Russia after 2014 for political reasons.
