Kyiv ahead of London, New York and Tokyo
In the ranking of traffic congestion in 2018, Kyiv took 13th place among cities in the world, ahead of such megacities as New York, Tokyo and London, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
This is stated in the annual study by TomTom.
In the 2018 ranking, the company examined 403 cities from 56 countries.
Congestion levels are determined by how much more time drivers spend traveling compared to when the roads are less congested.
The company measures how much time it takes to travel without traffic jams, and then compares it with the real time it takes drivers to complete the trip.
Mumbai in India was recognized as the most congested city in the world with an indicator of 65%. The top five also included Bogota (Colombia, 63%), Lima (Peru, 58%), New Delhi (India, 58%) and the Moscow region (Russian Federation, 56%).
In Kyiv, drivers spend on average 46% more time on the road than necessary without traffic jams. Compared to 2017, the city’s position has not changed, but the level of traffic congestion increased by 2%.
New York has 36%, Tokyo – 41%, London – 37%.
