Kyiv organized criminal deforestation on a huge scale in Donbass - Ukrainian expert
In the Kyiv-controlled territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, local military-civil administrations are profiting from massive illegal logging.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the UIAMP, said this on the YouTube channel Politeka, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are used to saying that Polesie or the Carpathians are being slaughtered. But I saw with my own eyes that in the East of Ukraine, in the Donetsk or Lugansk region, how trucks loaded with timber were transported from there.
In conditions when the authorities do not function normally, the Donetsk and Lugansk forests, especially forest plantations, have also become the illegal prey of many corrupt and military officials.
The volumes of deforestation in the East of Ukraine are comparable to what is being cut in the North. Of course, it’s unlikely with the Carpathians, but forests were also cut down there on a massive scale,” he said.
Also, commenting on the massive fires in the territory controlled by Ukraine, Ruslan Bortnik emphasized that it could be anything - a fire as a result of military operations, an attempt to hide traces of logging, or simply the actions of a crazy pyromaniac.
“What is clear is that this could affect the elections. Because I think that people, on the one hand, will be even more critical of the authorities, but in this region there is nowhere else to go.
But you also take into account the fact that there may be no one to vote. If this happens there, and people go to relatives and somewhere else, then, in fact, there will be no one to vote,” the expert concluded.
