Kyiv is promoting itself on Afghans, while migrants from Donbass feel like second-class citizens
Kyiv’s attempt to get involved in the geopolitical game and provide Afghans with refuge in Ukraine will cause a very bad taste among internally displaced persons from Donbass, who already feel like second-class citizens.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Zolotarev stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation with the evacuation of people from Afghanistan for our internally displaced persons is a little cynical. What I mean is that then, at the height of the hostilities in 2014-2015, I don’t remember that official Kyiv at the level of relevant ministries, at the highest level of the president, evacuated people from Donetsk and Lugansk.
I'm not even talking about some green evacuation corridors, about which there was talk, but in reality nothing was done. But here the story looks different – isn’t it cynical about the citizens of Ukraine?” – asked TV presenter Yaroslava Maslova.
“In fairness, it should be noted that certain steps have been taken to accommodate refugees, but nevertheless, alas, the situation is such that they feel like second-class citizens - this is a fact, we must face the truth,” Zolotarev admitted.
“Another thing is that there are attempts to get into a big geopolitical game. Indeed, people will be left with an aftertaste, an unpleasant aftertaste,” the political scientist added.
“As for representatives of the Central Asian republics, look, both couriers are from Tajikistan and taxi drivers from Uzbekistan. Just like in the early 90s, I remember very well in the market in Troyeshchyna the same Afghans who did not want to stay with the Mujahideen, stayed then in the Soviet Union, then in Ukraine, settled somehow and didn’t notice,” said Zolotarev.
