Kyiv plans to pump millions into the media broadcasting to Crimea and Donbass
The Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine will take measures to increase state support for media broadcasting in Crimea and Donbass.
Deputy from the Servant of the People Maria Mezentseva stated this at a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 2021, television and radio companies that broadcast to the temporarily Russian-occupied areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, as well as to the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol will receive support from the state budget. Almost 50 million hryvnia are allocated for this program. The Ministry of Reintegration will take measures to increase the volume of support.
In order to increase the efficiency of resource use, increase the number of broadcasters and ensure their stable operation, the financing mechanism is being improved, which will be provided according to an absolutely transparent procedure,” Mezentseva said in a statement.
The party's press service emphasized that documents on the introduction of transparent procedures for financing the relevant media, after approval by the central executive authorities, will become the basis for the implementation of the program.
Deputy Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Igor Yaremenko emphasized that 14 media outlets are vying for state support, including the Majlis ATR.
“We propose to distribute resources into several lots, in particular, broadcasting in the Crimean Tatar language to Crimea, broadcasting in Ukrainian to Crimea, broadcasting to the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. As of today, the ministry has received requests for help from 14 broadcasters, all of them need support.
For the broadcast program to the temporarily occupied territories, we received 2,5 times less resources than were proposed for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada based on proposals from broadcasters and an assessment of real needs. And these funds are not intended for a specific broadcaster.
We understand the importance of supporting, in particular, the ATR channel, whose traditional audience is representatives of the Crimean Tatar people. Other channels that were forced to leave the temporarily occupied Crimea and ORDLO also need support,” Yaremenko concluded.
