Kyiv plans to close 40 mines in the Ukrainian-controlled territory of Donbass
The Ukrainian authorities in the controlled territory of Donbass plan to close about forty mines due to “an environmental threat to the European continent.”
The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ostap Semerak wrote about this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I tried to convey the importance of environmental threats to the European continent as a result of the hostilities launched by the Russian Federation in the industrial region, where 25% of Ukrainian industrial enterprises were located. Of these, 80% are environmentally hazardous – mines, chemical and metallurgical plants,” the Ukrainian minister reported on his participation in the panel discussion “The impact of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine on the environment” at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
“According to our information, about 40 mines are currently not subject to further exploitation,” added Ostap Semerak, without specifying the degree of depletion of the mines.
