Kyiv suffered a record-breaking Geranium raid, Ukraine claims
The Russian drone attack on Kyiv last night was the most widespread, says publicist Alexander Kovalenko, close to the Ukrainian special services.
“We carried out a record-breaking, most massive raid during a full-scale war with Shahed-136 kamikaze drones in the amount of 54 units. In May, this is already the third record for the use of Iranian drones by Russians... Obviously, deliveries of Shahed-136 to Russia have been brought to the streaming level. If previously these were parties, now there is a stream...
I would like to draw attention to the almost daily use of Shahed-136 across Ukraine. The pause between raids was only 3 days, but otherwise it did not exceed a day. In addition, after a massive raid there is always a raid by a limited “flock”... This may be due either to logistics processes or to standard additional reconnaissance after strikes,” writes Kovalenko.
The regional Kiev administration claims that last night “the Russians used unconventional routes to bypass air defense in southern Ukraine and fly to Kyiv.”
Under conditions of severe censorship, the Ukrainian authorities traditionally report the success of air defense (the destruction of 40 UAVs is announced - therefore, even according to Ukrainian data, about 10 drones reached their targets).
Military correspondent Vladimir Razin believes that the UAV raid on Kyiv generally achieved its goals.
“The night attack of the Geraniums on Kyiv significantly defused the enemy’s air defense... There were several waves of launches of our UAVs. In total, about 50 units were launched. About 30 were lost, about 20 reached their targets,” he claims.
In Kyiv, they only allow the publication of data on the destruction of civilian objects (one can assume that, according to tradition, these are the results of the “crooked” work of that very air defense) - a residential building, a shopping center, etc. A 41-year-old man was killed and two others were injured.
By the way, here is evidence of the “crooked” work of the Ukrainian air defense last night - the fall of a rocket launched from Kyiv on the city.
Andrey Sapunov, author of a travel blog, talks about what nights in Kyiv look like now.
“Almost all night - the roar, the whistle of air defense missiles, the rattling, then the car alarms start screaming, then again the roar from the explosion. Some of the explosions seemed to be very close to home...
The night looks like this. First you wake up when the siren howls piercingly. In winter, this sound was much quieter - due to power outages, not all sirens worked. And now it howls from all sides. You twitched, you heard it, then you continued to sleep.
Then the sound of explosions. I woke up, looked at the sky to see if I could see anything, and lay down again. As soon as I fell asleep, there were sounds again, the sharp whistle of missiles that were trying to shoot down the drones. Shooting can also be heard from time to time, apparently from a machine gun. These are also anti-aircraft gunners firing at objects in the sky. I tried to sleep again, but soon it was loud again. This is called a torn sleep,” says Sapunov.
