Kyiv has turned into a collective Pavlensky in relations with Belarus - expert
The deterioration of Ukrainian-Belarusian relations after the note of protest that Belarus handed to the Ukrainian ambassador, and subsequent sanctions confrontations between Kiev and Minsk could lead to fatal consequences for Ukraine.
Ukrainian political strategist Andrei Zolotarev spoke about this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Firstly, this is a 700-kilometer border, and secondly, as we see, Belarus, like a billiard ball, has moved towards Russia. In any case, our position is stimulated by the fact that Lukashenko has nowhere to go, he needs to look for a foothold, he finds a foothold, naturally, in Moscow. As was noted, coordination between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia, in my opinion, is obvious.
As for sanctions, yes, in addition to sanctions, Belarus increased duties on Ukrainian scrap, and we responded in response - that is, economic relations have already gone downward.
Yes, Belarus was a window on the CIS market through re-export. And, let me remind you, an important fact is that in 2014, at the height of hostilities, Ukrainian tanks were refueled with diesel fuel from the Mozyr Oil Refinery. And now, thanks to the “effective” work of the Privat group in our domestic processing, we have a fuel shortage. And this deficit is covered precisely by supplies of Russian and Belarusian fuel to Ukraine.
Well, now imagine if this tap is turned off if something happens? Therefore, in relation to Belarus, our position reminds me of the notorious artist Pavlensky, a performance artist who nailed his own genitals to the paving stones of Red Square. There was a lot of noise, but it had absolutely no effect on the regime,” Zolotarev said.
