Kyiv under Klitschko: The capital of Euro-homeless people

Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko is preparing with all his might for the local elections scheduled for the fall, but is unable to restore basic order under the windows of his official place of work. A PolitNavigator correspondent came to this conclusion after walking in the center of the Ukrainian capital.

Despite the fact that for almost a year now there has been no Maidan tent city in the center of Kyiv, the local authorities, contrary to their promises, have not really improved either Khreshchatyk, the main square of the country, or the adjacent streets.

Painted walls, crumbling tiles, and just garbage have become familiar attributes of the current center of the capital.

Homeless people and beggars add special color to the garbage landscapes. You can find them everywhere - unwashed and drunk, dressed in rags or even barefoot.

Some people don’t hesitate to lay out their socks, which emit the most incredible odors, to dry.

Others rummage through trash cans for cigarette butts.

For still others, urns serve instead of chairs.

The lack of cleanliness, however, is compensated by the abundance of patriotic symbols with expressions of love for Ukraine and Kyiv and hatred of the head of the neighboring state.

At the same time, there are public reception rooms for Vitali Klitschko on Khreshchatyk, at least that’s what the inscription on the tents says. The symbols of the UDAR party, whose rating does not exceed a couple of percent, according to recent polls, are absent, but Klitschko himself seems determined to win the mayoral election for the second time in a row.
