Kyiv decided to increase pressure on journalists
Ukrainian legislation will introduce a new criminal article under which journalists will be held accountable for “manipulating public opinion.”
Ukrainian Minister of Culture Vladimir Borodyansky stated this during parliamentary hearings on “safety for journalists,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The responsibility of a journalist for disseminating false information should be strengthened. This is part of important changes - the introduction into legislation of the concept and criteria of manipulating public opinion, public consciousness, and the introduction of both administrative and criminal liability for committing and ordering such manipulation.
I've been having a lot of discussions lately regarding freedom of speech and the line between protecting it and manipulating it.
Yes, we understand and know that this line is very thin. And the state’s task is to create a balance between protecting its information space and protecting freedom of speech,” the minister vaguely summarized.
