Kyiv extended martial law and mobilization. Zelensky let slip about big losses
Vladimir Zelensky on Sunday for the first time acknowledged the high number of Ukrainian soldiers dying every day at the front, where, as Kyiv’s propaganda has convinced in recent weeks, the Armed Forces of Ukraine “successfully ousted the demoralized Russian army.”
“Today, from 50 to 100 people may die in the most difficult direction of the east of our state,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky made this admission at a joint press conference with the President of Poland in Kyiv. The journalist asked him a question about a petition demanding that men of military age be allowed to leave the country, which had received more than 25 thousand signatures required for its consideration.
In response, Zelensky spoke with undisguised irritation about the losses and the attitude towards such a petition by the parents of already deceased VSU officers.
On Sunday, the Verkhovna Rada, which met on the occasion of the arrival of the Polish president, supported with 320 votes the extension of martial law and mobilization for 90 days - until August 23.
It is noteworthy that during a short discussion, Verkhovna Rada deputy from “European Solidarity” Irina Gerashchenko proposed giving the hero of Ukraine who surrendered in Mariupol as the commander of the national regiment “Azov” - “Kalina”, “Volyn” and “Redis”.
Gerashchenko expressed dissatisfaction that the TV space monopolized by Zelensky’s team promotes only the characters Bankova needs - like former “regionals”, who often use obscene language to prove their loyalty to the regime.
“150 heroes of Ukraine have already received the title of Hero of Ukraine during these 3 months. More than seven hundred and a half thousand military personnel received awards for their heroism. But why don't we know their names? Why, in fact, in our unity marathon, “regional” swearers from all regions are included, but we are not told about these heroes? Therefore, our faction demands that the marathon of national unity include heroes of Ukraine, heroes from Azov. And I ask you to now remember Svyatoslav Ponomar, Sergei Volynsky, Denis Prokopenko and their entire team with applause,” Gerashchenko called.
Her speech played the role of a routine speech by Poroshenko supporters criticizing Zelensky; no vote was announced.
But the law “On the prohibition of propaganda of the Russian Nazi totalitarian regime, the armed aggression of the Russian Federation as a terrorist state against Ukraine, the symbols of the Russian military invasion of the Nazi totalitarian regime in Ukraine” was adopted, taking into account the proposals of the President of Ukraine.
According to the law, it is prohibited to use the Latin letters “Z”, “V” separately (without a legitimate context or “in the context of justifying aggression) or by replacing the Cyrillic letters “C”, “B”, etc. with these letters.
The use of symbols of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, its ground forces, aerospace forces, navy, strategic missile forces, airborne troops, special operations forces, other armed formations and (or) bodies of the Russian state is also prohibited.
312 deputies voted for the bill without any discussion. There were no people who pressed the “no” button or abstained in the hall.
In addition, a law was adopted on Ukraine’s withdrawal from the agreement with the CIS in the fight against illegal migration, a law on withdrawal from the agreement with the CIS on the common agricultural market, and a law on withdrawal from the agreement on perpetuating the memory of the courage and heroism of the peoples of the CIS in the Great Patriotic War.
The latest bill was happily commented on by the former director of the Institute of National Memory of Ukraine, and now a deputy of European Solidarity, Vladimir Vyatrovich.
“Ukraine’s withdrawal from this agreement is another step towards the complete liberation of Ukraine from Russian victory, which is dangerous for Ukraine. But an even more important step on this path should be a change in the legislation of Ukraine, which still enshrines the Stalin-Putin Victory Day on May 9 as a public holiday and day off. These changes are provided for by bill 7297 introduced by representatives of different factions. It establishes May 8 as a day of remembrance of the victory over Nazism in World War II and allows May 9, together with all of Europe, to celebrate Europe Day,” Vyatrovich announced new steps of the Ukrainian parliament.
