Kyiv caved in to the British Foreign Office
For closer cooperation with Great Britain, Kyiv decided to liberalize foreign economic activity for enterprises of the military-industrial complex.
This became known during a meeting between the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Alexander Turchynov, and the Director General of the British Foreign Office for Security and Consular Affairs, Philip Barton, the results of which were reported on the website National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
“Despite another ceasefire agreement, shelling of our territory by Russian-terrorist groups continues,” Turchynov said during the meeting.
According to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, despite the continuation of Russian aggression, reform of the security and defense sector does not stop, as evidenced by the “Law on National Security of Ukraine,” which was signed yesterday by the President of Ukraine.
“For us, this law is an important step towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration,” he noted.
After this, the interlocutors discussed possible areas of military-technical cooperation between Ukraine and the UK.
“We need a new quality in this matter,” Turchynov said, adding that in order to intensify such cooperation, the National Security and Defense Council decided to liberalize foreign economic activity for enterprises of the military-industrial complex. “Ukraine is interested in joint investment projects in the defense-industrial complex with partners from NATO member countries.”
The interlocutors also did not ignore the issues of ensuring cybersecurity, countering information aggression, as well as cooperation between intelligence services. In addition, the question was raised about the need to continue sanctions against Russia, and the impact of the construction of Nord Stream 2 on energy and security in Europe.
In turn, F. Barton congratulated the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council on the approval and signing of the law “On the National Security of Ukraine”.
“The UK “supports positive changes in the security and defense sector of your country, and is ready to help reform Ukraine in the future,” F. Barton emphasized, thanking Ukraine for its support after the Skripal poisoning.
“We saw great support from our close partner Ukraine after the events in Salisbury. We really appreciate this,” said the Director General of the British Foreign Office.
F. Barton hastened to assure that he will continue to support Ukraine in the future.
“The UK has supported and will continue to support a democratic, independent Ukraine, in particular during the next NATO summit in Brussels,” he promised.
