“Kyiv is provoking Donbass to make a fatal mistake,” Pushilin
Kyiv is doing everything to give the civil war in Donbass the status of an international conflict and drag Russia into the confrontation.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, stated this in an interview with the newspaper Myśl Polska, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He explained that Kyiv is terribly afraid of the option when Donbass will be given a “special status”, since this will create a chain reaction across many regions of the current territory of Ukraine.
“Unitary Ukraine will have to be reformatted into a federal structure, which will logically reduce the influence of Kyiv and critically weaken the central government. However, Ukraine cannot refuse to implement the Minsk agreements. Therefore, they decided to delay the negotiation process in the hope that someday the geopolitical situation will change or we will make a fatal mistake that would allow Kyiv to gracefully exit the game while saving face. That is why Ukraine resorts to all sorts of provocations both on the line of combat contact in Donbass and on the Minsk site,” said Pushilin.
“Kyiv’s goal is to make, or at least present, Moscow as a party to the conflict,” added the head of the DPR.
According to him, it is pointless to expect the Ukrainian leadership to fulfill the Minsk obligations, since Bankova is very afraid of the reaction of nationalists, who sometimes directly influence decisions that are fateful for the state.
“All these years, Kyiv has not intended to implement the Minsk agreements for a single day. What should Ukraine do in this case so that it is not accused of violating its obligations (by the way, approved by the UN Security Council)? Of course, to create the appearance of working in a public space, to pretend to be full of activity, to promote oneself on statements, but in fact – to organize provocations and stall for time.
All these years, the Ukrainian side has been doing nothing but organizing political shows and demarches, avoiding any specifics and not making any productive contacts with representatives of the LDPR,” stated Pushilin.
