Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, stated this on Channel 5.

According to him, European diplomats today hesitate between the state line of support for Ukraine and the economic interests of the country. Steinmeier himself, according to Gerashchenko, plays the role of a “good cop” for Russia, unlike Angela Merkel, who criticizes Putin’s policies.
“On the one hand, they understand that there is a war with Russia in Ukraine, on the other hand, they are under pressure from their industrialists and entrepreneurs, who have invested huge amounts of money in the Russian economy. For example, there is the Volkswagen concern, which has established production of about 300-400 thousand cars in Russia. This is billions of dollars. There are German companies that understand that their investments may be nationalized. The total amount of Western investment in Russia is $700 billion. And the West understands that if all their property is taken away, this could be a new round of economic crisis. Therefore, they are forced to pursue such a policy: one step forward and two back,” Gerashchenko said.
