Advisor to the Ukrainian permanent representative to the UN Alexander Matsuka said this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “Correspondent”, answering a question about guarantees to Ukraine in exchange for the renunciation of nuclear weapons.
“When they start talking about our large nuclear potential, I feel funny. Because it's not true. Let's imagine for a moment that the United States has broken up into 51 states, they are solving their own issues, and their nuclear potential is located in some Germany. The question arises: whose weapon is the USA or Germany? Yes, it was exactly the same with us - we had Soviet nuclear missiles on our territory, but did not have the right to control them,” Matsuka said.
“That is, we had a kind of suitcase without a handle. It's the same as having cartridges at home when your neighbor has a rifle. And during the signing of the Budapest Memorandum, we gave away what we had no right to and what we could not serve,” said the adviser to the permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN. “Why it didn’t work is another question.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the founder of the Azov regiment calls for the return of Crimea and Donbass using nuclear weapons.
