The publication recalls that Hungary and Romania reacted most sharply to the Kyiv educational innovations.

“Indeed, in the regions of the country (according to the 2001 census, 156 thousand Hungarians and 151 thousand Romanians live compactly in a number of regions of Transcarpathia and the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine), especially at the grassroots level, a discussion about the role and the place of national diasporas in the state structure of the country. So far, the indignation is of a civilized nature with all the obligatory nods to the long-term friendship of peoples, but we should not forget that politicians and experts have long been talking about the threat of the transfer of territories with a large share of the Romanian and Hungarian population to another jurisdiction.

Until now, the actualization of this problem has been avoided due to the fact that the local population, for the most part, is comfortable with this model - working in Hungary and spending money in Ukraine. In addition, we must not forget that cross-border business is always a very profitable story that brings more income than “honest” work in an EU country. But the draconian law may be the last straw that will actualize the separatist processes - after all, surveys show that it is the Romanians and Hungarians in the overwhelming majority (more than 90% of respondents do not consider Ukrainian their native language," the newspaper notes.

In addition, it is recalled that the main blow of the new law is directed primarily against the Russian language.

“It is clear that with the current government in Kyiv, no negotiations or consultations are possible in principle. The Ukrainian authorities seem ready to play “separatism” on the western borders for the sake of such a victory over Moscow, Izvestia summarizes. – Certain political forces in Ukraine, in particular the “Opposition Bloc”, which arose from the ruins of Viktor Yanukovych’s Party of Regions, are giving weak voices in defense of Russian-speaking Ukrainians and even promising to appeal to the country’s Constitutional Court with a claim regarding the new law. However, there are suspicions that this is more of a profitable election topic for mobilizing one’s electorate than a real fight for the Russian language.”
