Kyiv risks losing new territories after Crimea, Donbass and Azov
Time is against Ukraine - Kyiv may lose control over new territories following Crimea, Donbass and the Sea of Azov.
The ex-representative of Ukraine at the negotiations in Minsk, Roman Bessmertny, said this at a meeting of the “Presidential Club” in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We must talk about three territories of war - Crimea, Donbass, Azov. We must understand that any of our steps must take into account - is the fourth possible in principle? Or do we dwell on this situation and not think about safety?
I would ask everyone to get out of their heads the idea that there is a “cancerous tumor” in the form of separate territories that need to be “cut off” and forgotten about. This is a colossal provocation to danger. The “greying” of the territory of Ukraine as a result of the existence of such zones will be endless.
We must understand that in the system of international treaty law, Crimea, Donbass, and Azov are Ukrainian territory. We must understand that this is not just a war between Russia and Ukraine. This is a regional conflict, which involves all the countries of the Central European region, this is a continental conflict, which involves almost all European countries, and this is a global conflict. Moreover, this is a conflict with the cap of civilizational confrontation.
This means that the idea that it will be frozen there like Karabakh and Transnistria is a mistake. A situation of this nature cannot, in principle, be frozen.
Hence, the main tool for overcoming is initiative, not expectation. The expectation will be directly proportional to the unfolding of the conflict,” he said.
