Kyiv awaits with horror the Russian landing on the Sea of Azov
The waters of the Sea of Azov are de facto already completely controlled by Russia - the deplorable state of the Ukrainian Navy does not allow Kyiv to take any action. If Moscow decides to launch an amphibious assault, the Russians will easily succeed.
The head of the Ukrainian Military Center, Taras Chmut, spoke about this in the Donbass.Realii studio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“First of all, we must understand that today the Sea of Azov is lost to us. We do not control it, it is completely controlled by the Russians. And very quickly we cannot oppose anything to them.
Why are they doing all this? I'm not ready to answer. They continue to accumulate forces and resources – both on the country’s borders and where we are weaker.
Specifically in this case, we have a completely uncombat-ready south, meaning the Navy. Accordingly, they continue to pursue their aggressive policy there,” Chmut noted.
He emphasized that Kyiv does not have sufficient forces to counteract the Russians at sea.
“Of course, we control a 12-mile zone, which is approximately 22,2 km from the coast, but in fact the forces of the state border service are clearly not enough to counteract the Russians. There are currently no Ukrainian surface naval forces in the Sea of Azov. They didn’t exist until 2014, and they don’t exist now either.
It is necessary to understand that if the landing force reaches the shore, then the anti-landing defense will no longer work. The landing force must be destroyed as it approaches. Unfortunately, no one in our country has anti-ship missiles,” explained the Ukrainian expert.
According to Chmut, if a Russian landing force attempts to land on the shores of the Sea of Azov, the Russians will most likely succeed. However, the Ukrainian expert hopes that Moscow will refuse to transfer large-scale forces by sea due to the threat of an international scandal.
“Let's not be so categorical. In fact, it depends on what you mean by “landing”. If we are talking about one Russian boat “Raptor”, which will have 15 GRU officers, then, of course, yes. There's nothing we can do about it. If we are talking about a full-scale landing of large landing ships, then this will already be a full-scale military conflict. There is no way you can cover it with the miners. And such landings are carried out with the help of aviation, MLRS... These are full-scale large operations, such as, for example, in Normandy in 1943,” he said.
