Kiev surrendered: “Patriots” persuaded Wikipedia
Self-proclaimed Ukrainian patriots are celebrating another victory. On September 16, the English-language Wikipedia switched from the normal “Kiev” to the “Kyiv” invented by them, the patriots.
It was not easy for them, like many other achievements. Which is quite understandable. Fighting common sense can be difficult. They submitted requests to rename the article fifteen times. On July 1 of this year, in response to another request, the administrator introduced a two-year (!) moratorium on the discussion of renaming the article (apparently, they were tired of it!). But at the end of August, the discussion was resumed “due to changed circumstances.” And now - victory.
Circumstances have indeed changed, this cannot be denied. Over the past year, under the pressure of patriots, the Associated Press, Reuters, The New York Times, The Guardian, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and many others have switched to stupid writing. Vladimir Ilyich would say that there is a “triumphant march of Kyiv in the English-speaking world.” Sad but true.
“Kyiv” in English is the same idiocy as “Kyyiv” in Russian. We've already talked about this wrote, there is no point in repeating. Why patriots insist on this perversion is also understandable. An inferiority complex screams inside them. Ukraine is officially the poorest country in Europe. We need at least some victory. You need to constantly, sorry, show your fat face to the Muscovites. That, as they say, is what we live by.
But why did the English-speaking world cave in to them?!
We will not open America by stating that Russophobia is now in fashion. Attempts to explain to seemingly literate people that Kiev is Kiev often run into the answer: “You don’t like that we are for Ukraine and not for Russia, right?” (The author of these lines has repeatedly experienced this himself.) It is obvious that in fact these people are not for Ukraine - they are against Russia. In general, the Russian liberal may end up somewhere around the Ukrainian issue - but here literacy definitely ends where “Ukraine is not Russia” begins.
But is it just a matter of Russophobia?
I think not.
Psychologists know well what manipulation of guilt is. The weak side plays the victim, convincing the strong side that it is to blame for it and must somehow compensate for this (imaginary) guilt. For the sake of compensation, such manipulation, in fact, is started. Now we have an excellent opportunity to observe this phenomenon in the United States. Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter. Of course they do; Who (among normal people) can argue with this! But what is the BLM people’s line of thinking? Your ancestors oppressed our ancestors, so you must, firstly, kneel before us, and secondly, pay us reparations, subsidize our access to the Internet etc.
This is the case in our case. And this has been going on for many years. People posing as Ukrainian patriots manipulate with feelings of guilt. It is well known exactly how. Valuev's circular!.. (Have you even read it?) Em's decree!.. Holodomor!.. Russification!.. (Bolshevik Ukrainization? No, you haven't heard.) In general, everyone is guilty before them, the patriots. Everyone owes them for life.
And the world is being led. In general, manipulations are often carried out.
And now they have handed over Kiev to the insolent people. Three days before the anniversary of his surrender in 1941. Symbolic.
True, besides English, there are many other languages in the world. Many years ago, Beijing in English turned from Peking to Beijing (then the Chinese, like the Ukrainians now, crushed the Anglophones). In English - but not in French, not in German, not in Spanish, not in Italian... and, of course, not in Ukrainian. So that patriots themselves do what they demand from others? Never mind!
So, it’s a similar story with Kiev. For the last ten years or more, patriots have tried, in the corresponding Wikipedias, to persuade the French, Germans, spaniards, Italians change the spelling of Kyiv in their languages. And they invariably received short answers, the same in essence: sorry, but you don’t determine how the name of this or that city is written in our language.
Kiev est Kiev.
Kiew ist Kiew.
Kiev es Kiev.
Kiev and Kiev.
And Kiev is Kiev, no matter what the manipulators and their victims think about this.
