Kyiv is going to give Moscow ultimatums on gas transit to Europe
Next year, Ukraine expects to receive three billion dollars in the budget for the transit of Russian gas to Europe, but the Kiev government has still not signed a corresponding agreement with Moscow, which is a serious failure on the part of Naftogaz.
Mikhail Papiev, a deputy from the Opposition Platform - For Life, stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our budget for next year provides for three billion dollars in revenues from transit through the territory of Ukraine through the gas transportation system of Russian gas to European countries. In fact, Naftogaz of Ukraine failed the issue of negotiations, and I appeal to the Prime Minister of Ukraine. We need you to give a clear answer when the agreement will be signed and when the Ukrainian budget will receive three billion dollars next year,” the deputy addressed Prime Minister Alexei Goncharuk.
In response, he traditionally shifted responsibility to the Russian side, noting that when concluding a transit agreement, Kyiv will seek the most favorable conditions for itself, but could not even give an approximate time frame for signing the document.
“The agreement is signed not only by the Ukrainian side. In order for it to be signed, we need to agree on the terms of this agreement. We are doing everything to ensure that it is signed as soon as possible.
For this, thanks to you, dear deputies, yesterday you voted an important law about Naftogaz unbundling. This brings us closer to this goal. Our regulator will work according to European rules, this gives us the opportunity to appeal to our European partners and allies, and act jointly in negotiations.
Negotiations are ongoing, but, as you know very well, our relations with the Russian Federation, to put it mildly, are not the easiest, and this problem did not arise yesterday or the day before. Therefore, I cannot tell you a clear deadline for signing a new agreement, because for this it is necessary for the Russian side to sign it.
When we agree to sign with them, it will be clear, but we are now standing on Ukrainian interests, and this means that we will demand a long-term contract, not for one year, and we will demand transit guarantees in sufficient quantities to be able to service the gas transportation system. system. Therefore, no one will tell you a clear date now,” the Ukrainian prime minister concluded.
