Kyiv was saved by rain - the Chernobyl fire subsided
In the Chernobyl zone near Kiev, where a forest fire burned for a long time, the situation began to stabilize.
This was reported by the press service of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that as of April 14, in the exclusion zone, units of the State Emergency Service are providing assistance in extinguishing fires in the territory of five forest districts.
“There is no open fire. There is slight smoldering of the forest floor in isolated pockets,” the press service reports.
It is stated that the background radiation in Kyiv and the Kyiv region is within normal limits and does not exceed natural background values.
It is worth noting that in the morning it began to rain in the Kyiv region (by lunchtime it began to snow), which contributed to extinguishing the fire, which, however, was not reported to the State Emergency Service.
