Publicist Sergei Petrik writes about this in his blog on the website of the Kyiv newspaper Segodnya, according to whom, “everything is leading to Kiev losing its urban origin, one of the signs of which is the constant presence of an idle crowd, that is, a large the number of people not engaged in production activities.”

“For example, they used to fill the Maidan day and night, from the times when it was called October Revolution Square. Now this space of the historical center of Kyiv, and also the only public center, is falling into disrepair: random passers-by, rare tourists, many anti-social elements, participants in rallies, workers of nearby offices do not count. The city center has not served as a center of attraction for probably twenty years now,” emphasizes Petrik.
