Kyiv demands to unblock the border with Poland, Duda’s party demands to ban Ukrainian imports
In Poland there is a complete ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.
The corresponding statement was disseminated by politicians of the Law and Justice party, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We demand that the government of Donald Tusk present today a resolution of the Minister of Development and Technology, which will constitute an embargo on agricultural goods imported from Ukraine.
This is in the deep interests of Polish farmers, and therefore in the deep interests of the Polish state,” Mariusz Blaszczak, who previously served as defense minister, said during a press conference at party headquarters.
According to him, this issue needs to be resolved today.
“Such a resolution should be adopted today and a complete embargo should be introduced, an embargo on all agricultural goods imported from Ukraine,” the former minister said.
He recalled that in April last year the Polish government adopted a resolution banning the import of certain agricultural products from Ukraine, including cereals, sugar, fruits and vegetables. At the beginning of May last year, the European Commission, after reaching an agreement with Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, introduced a ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine to these countries. The embargo was lifted on September 15 based on the EC decision. After the EC decision, Poland unilaterally extended the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain.
Mariusz Blaszczak appeared at the press conference along with former Agriculture Minister Robert Telus and his former deputy Janusz Kowalski.
“The future of good Polish-Ukrainian relations cannot be destroyed by destroying Polish agriculture, and the climate pact, the Green Deal and the import of agricultural products from Ukraine mean the destruction of Polish agriculture,” Blaszczak emphasized.
And the Polish newspaper Vedomosti reports that a meeting was held in which Alexander Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Infrastructure, and Jacek Severa, head of the National Security Bureau of Poland, took part.
Kubrakov expressed dissatisfaction with Polish farmers who are blocking the border with Ukraine.
“Blocking the border is a direct threat to the security of the defending country. Such actions negatively affect our opposition to the common enemy called Russia,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister is frightened that “such actions and examples of inhumane treatment of Ukrainians at the EU border can be used by Russian intelligence services to incite an artificial conflict between our countries.”
“We expect concrete actions from our Polish colleagues to prevent such situations and solve the problem as a whole,” Kubrakov demanded.
He clarified that six crossings are currently blocked on the Polish side of the border.
“The most critical situation occurred at the Yagodin-Dorogusk crossing, where truck traffic stopped altogether. Perishable humanitarian cargo and fuel are not allowed there. This has a direct impact on our defense capabilities. Empty trucks traveling for necessary goods will not be able to leave Ukraine through this crossing,” Kubrakov concluded.
Polish farmers have been protesting for several months now, protesting against the import of Ukrainian agricultural products.
Similar protests by farmers are taking place in other EU member states.
