Kyiv will slam the trap in the Sea of Azov
If Ukraine breaks the agreement with Russia on the common use of the waters of the Sea of Azov, the strait between Crimea and Kuban will immediately be declared internal waters of the Russian Federation, and Kyiv will lose the possibility of unhindered passage of ships.
Political scientist Sergei Stankevich said this on Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“All that was said here regarding some unfavorable actions of Russia for Ukraine, let me remind you that no problems arose at all before the incident with the Nord ship at the end of April of this year. All problems began to arise only after this unfortunate incident, which has not yet been completely resolved. In my opinion, Ukraine took this incident in vain.
When the 2003 Kuchma-Putin Azov Treaty is terminated, the first thing Russia will do is declare the Kerch Strait as its territorial waters in full compliance with the 1982 UN International Maritime Convention on the Law of the Sea. This decision can then be challenged in the courts for a long time,” the expert noted.
