Kyiv infects the Don Cossacks with Russophobia - expert
In the ranks of the Don Cossacks there are separatists who are actively supported by the current Kiev regime
Senior researcher at the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrei Marchukov stated this at a conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We know that there are Cossack separatists who claim that the Don Cossacks are not Russians, but a special nation, that the “Moskovshchina” annexed and suppressed the freedom-loving Cossack Don. We know that these Cossack separatists receive great support from Ukraine, which also introduced a monopoly on the Zaporozhye Cossacks, declaring them not part of the Russian Cossack belt, but a kind of “thousand-year history of the Ukrainian nation,” Marchukov noted.
He emphasized that the Cossacks, including the Zaporozhye ones, have exclusively Russian roots, and they cannot be given into the hands of Russophobes.
“But we know that many Cossack troops were generally a product of the Russian statehood, served it faithfully, defended its borders, and so on. And, moreover, from a historical and moral point of view, we do not have the right to hand over Cossack history, including Zaporizhian history, not to mention the Sloboda Cossacks, to anti-Russian projects,” the expert concluded.
