In the near future, the price of public transport in the Ukrainian capital will increase by half.
Viktor Medved, head of the William Invest consulting company, stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, most likely, the price increase will occur in two stages.
“I think the first increase will be followed by another increase during the quarter. This will be 50% in the aggregate of the two increases.
I’ll tell you more than that – the railways have declared increases, all types of transport have declared increases. Why won't it be available in private passenger transport? It will definitely be,” said Medved.
Urbanist and expert on transport modeling Dmitry Bespalov emphasized that after the presidential elections, Ukraine will be hit by more than one wave of increases in public transport fares.
“We are expecting elections in the spring. I think that now are the last months when price increases can be introduced. About three months, four months before the elections there will be no increase in prices, because this is always poorly perceived by voters, but after the elections we will expect price increases, price increases, price increases, conservation-conservation-conservation,” he said.
Bespalov said that the increase in transport fares is beneficial for businessmen.
“Any illegal business where there is a lot of cash, he likes peace and quiet. That is, as long as he is calm, as long as people are not indignant, as long as people, bowing their heads, accept the next increase and simply pay for the journey, passing on the money to the driver, until then the system will not change.
