Kiev residents are abandoning meters en masse, and the authorities are threatening to cut off their gas in retaliation.

This was announced by the chief engineer of OJSC Kievgaz Oleg Struk.
“In 2015, Kievgaz must install 16 thousand 400 gas meters. As of today, 2 thousand 448 meters have been installed,” he noted.
At the same time, he added that the plan was not fulfilled due to no fault of the gas workers.
“Kievan residents refuse to install meters, and there are even those who, having installed them, ask to remove them. For example, to date we have received 1 written requests to remove the installed meter,” the official said.
Kievgaz is threatening to stop supplying gas to consumers who refuse to install meters in apartments and houses where there are gas water heaters along with stoves.
“I am against harsh methods, but it is very difficult to convince Kiev residents of the need to install meters. Due to unreasonably low gas consumption standards, the population refuses to install meters. From January 1, 2016, in accordance with Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine “On ensuring commercial metering of natural gas,” PJSC Kievgaz will be forced to stop consuming gas to consumers who refused to install meters in apartments and houses where there are gas water heaters along with stoves. I would like to remind you once again that PJSC Kyivgaz does not set gas tariffs, does not set consumption standards, but is only a gas transportation company that complies with the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine,” noted Oleg Struk.
