Residents of Kiev pay more for transport travel than residents of Warsaw and Prague
The costs of public transport for Kiev residents are higher than for residents of Warsaw, Prague or Budapest - despite the fact that in Kyiv the quality of services is much worse, since they use minibuses rather than modern municipal transport.
Former Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine (2014-2015) Alexander Kava stated this on air on the Apostrophe.TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Pricing policy is the responsibility of local authorities. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that residents of Kyiv have long been paying more per month for urban transport than, for example, residents of Warsaw, Prague or Budapest.
We very often compare the cost of a single fare - “look, their single fare costs more.” This is true. But for some reason they forget to say that in Prague or Budapest city residents do not use single tickets. They buy travel cards, and in these cities, if you translate the cost, for 700-800 hryvnia a resident gets the right to travel without restrictions in city and even suburban transport.
And if we calculate how much, for example, a Kiev resident spends who uses transport four times a day (bus-metro, metro-bus), we will see that the amount is greater than that of a resident of Prague, Warsaw or Budapest - despite the fact that there income level is much higher. Moreover, the level of transport there is incomparable to what we have,” said Alexander Kava.
