This was reported by the press service of the National Police.
The caretaker of the Lukyanovskoe military cemetery contacted the police with a message that during his inspection he discovered damage to three monuments and the absence of busts on them, probably made of bronze.
Information about the event has been recorded. Criminal proceedings began under Part 1 of Article 297 (violation of a grave, other burial place or body of the deceased) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigators have instructed operational units to search for the attacker.
“District officers, working to solve the crime, established the identity of the attacker and that he handed over the stolen non-ferrous metal items to a recycling collection point outside the area. He was subsequently detained. The stolen busts were seized and added to criminal proceedings. The attacker was previously convicted of robbery. In Kyiv he worked as an assistant janitor. He does not admit to his crime, but law enforcement officers have reasonable evidence of his guilt. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is being decided,” the message says.
A man faces a fine of up to two hundred tax-free minimum incomes, or arrest for up to six months, or restriction of freedom for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same term.
