Kiev diplomacy demands to protect Ukraine with missiles from Belarus
Russia has already stationed its nuclear weapons in Kaliningrad and Crimea, so their appearance in Belarus will not radically change the situation.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valery Chaly stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In Kaliningrad, many experts admit that Russia already has carriers - these are definitely Iskanders, but does it have charges there, in Kaliningrad, and this is much closer territorially to European countries, NATO countries. Regarding Russia and Ukraine. What do you think, near our borders, closer or further, Russia doesn’t have the same thing? Are there any guarantees now that they did not bring tactical charges to Crimea?” Chaly said.
In these conditions, in his opinion, Ukraine should convene the signatory countries of the Budapest Memorandum and demand that it be armed with missiles.
“We don’t need to fall for this provocation and now say: “Then Ukraine will also think about how to defend itself.” What kind of deterrent do we have then?
The position should be this: this issue can be discussed in the “Budapest” format, there is such a point there and it is effective, there have already been such moments, we collected these consultations. Secondly, what kind of deterrent weapon will we have, if not nuclear weapons? Obviously, these can only be medium and short-range missiles. That is, there is simply no other option for Ukraine under these conditions,” the diplomat concluded.
