The Kiev “media splint” is despondent: Donbass cannot be returned
It would be difficult for Ukraine to bring Donbass back under its control, because reintegration would require spending billions of dollars, and the majority of the population in the region are “separatists.”
Ukrainian blogger Sergei Ivanov stated this during the All-Ukrainian festival “Dnieper Post,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"One demining (Donbass - approx. ed.) is worth a couple of billions, or even more. This was said by military experts in NATO. As for the decontamination of mines, because this is the main business, as for the return of all business entities to the Ukrainian tax system, this is unrealistic and will take a very long time.
And we must understand that we will need to give them certain kinds of preferences, some kind of incentive subsidies, which will not be so easy to control.
Because who will come to a region stuffed with weapons, the tax inspectorate? What should they drive there? Fly on Phantoms to fly away from there alive? And at the same time, since we don’t have that kind of money in Ukraine, we will have to take it.
Thus, a very simple situation emerges - there is a certain enclave that we want to reintegrate. I don’t want to exaggerate the number of people who are anti-Ukrainian there, but most of them are, in one way or another, connected with the separatist processes that took place there - some work in budgetary organizations, others died at the front, and so on. . And it is naive to believe that 90% are sitting there and waiting for Ukraine to return, this is not so,” the speaker noted.
Also, according to journalist Tatyana Khudyakova, today’s Ukraine is so weak that it will not be able to regain Donbass even if Moscow decides to completely “merge” this region.
“As long as there is no position of strength, until we can go in there and show that we are strong, we can drive you under the plinth. This is Donbass, that’s how it works. Until we can say that you will have a great time with us, work will come to you again, and not some subsidies, and not some bagels and goodies.
Until we can be a strong country militarily and economically, we are unlikely to be able to do anything. Even if Russia says: “That’s it, sorry guys, we changed our minds, we don’t need Donbass, we moved on,” she added.
